7 Aug 2008 - A great meal at the Jewel of India
Our thanks to the management of The Jewel of India Restaurant, Otley, to Julia Johnson, Otley’s Community Liaison Officer and to all our members, their families and friends who dined there on Wednesday 30th July. Restaurant manager, Islam Qureshi, had previously been to see Julia as he wanted ‘to assist local charities with fundraising ideas’. Julia kindly put our name forward as one of three possible charities and he picked us out to help first.
The result was some excellent food eaten among a restaurant full of friends and half the cost of each meal going to our funds. We made £230 which Islam kindly made up to £250. We also made £40 from the collection boxes on the night. This brought the total money raised up to £290 so Islam generously made a further donation to make it up to £300.
This would have been a lovely evening even if we hadn’t been going to profit from it. To also raise a total of £300 for the group made it seem the perfect way to fundraise! Thank you, Islam, and your wonderful staff.
