27 Apr 2006 - Federation of Disability Sports Awards

Otley and District Riding for the Disabled Association and Acrecliffe Equestrian Centre, where we ride, had plenty to celebrate at The Federation of Disability Sports Award Dinner 2006.

Twenty supporters from the RDA and Acrecliffe were among the three hundred or so people who enjoyed a first class evening at the Banqueting Suite, Leeds United Football Club last Friday night.

Everyone had their fingers crossed as at least ten people from the two organisations had been put forward for awards in the various categories. The competition was stiff as was obvious from the achievements of recipients.
Celebrations began when Mandy Schofield, a deaf/blind rider from our group was called forward to receive the Most Promising Senior Newcomer award. This award goes to 'someone who has shown achievement at local and regional level and has potential to progress to the international scene'. Mandy amazes everyone with her determination not only to ride but to compete in dressage up to national level. At the moment she is training hard to ensure that she gets a place at the RDA National Finals in Hartpury in July of this year.

The celebrations continued when Anne and Bruce Everall, owners of Acrecliffe Equestrian Centre, Otley, where we ride, found that they had won the Contribution from Industry award. This award 'acknowledges support given to disability sport by a company'. No one deserves this award more than Anne and Bruce who have supported Otley and District RDA Group in so many different ways for more than twenty years. They were delighted to receive some recognition for their efforts over the years.

So, all in all, a great evening for our group and one which will encourage everyone. Our congratulations to Mandy and congratulations and thanks to Anne & Bruce whose continued support has made so much possible.
