2 Jun 2006 - Tanika meets HRH Princess Anne
It isn?t everyday that you receive a certificate handed to you in person by the Princess Royal but that?s exactly what happened to one of our riders.
Tanika was one of about ninety children throughout the U.K. who had completed a joint education project between the Riding for the Disabled Association and ASDAN. The idea was to deliver the National Curriculum through riding and stable management. At the end of the course six lucky children were chosen to receive their certificates from Princess Anne, the president of the RDA.
Tanika had followed the ASDAN course, along with five other classmates, during their weekly riding sessions. The group worked under the tutelage of Wendy Woodham, an instructor with Otley & District RDA and also Educational Coordinator for the project.
The presentation took place at Woburn Golf Club, near Milton Keynes. Also present were golf teams who had paid a considerable amount of money to play in a one round competition aimed at raising funds for future Education Projects.
It was a proud moment for Tanika and her family when she received her certificate from Princess Anne. Afterwards the Princess talked to all the children and their parents about the Project before taking off in her helicopter. A final surprise for Tanika came on the way out as the Managing Director of Woburn presented her with a teddy dressed in a Woburn jumper.
