OTLEY & DISTRICT RIDING for the DISABLED GROUP

23 Jul 2007 - Team Otley & District at the National Championships 2007

In last week's RDA National Championships every single competitor from our group was placed in at least one class. There were firsts for Ann Rennison (in her first ever National Championships) in Combined Training and for Richard Bromley and Megan Herbert in Tack & Turnout. Megan also had a third in dressage and Ann a fourth in Combined Training. Roger Ramsdale was third in Combined Training and fifth in dressage.
Lynne Burnley and Elaine Button both had fifth places in their dressage classes. All credit to Elaine who was competing with a broken bone in her foot, uncertain which horse she would be riding as Ruby, on whom she had done all her training, had an allergic reaction to the bedding provided. Following an examination by the vet, Ruby was moved to another stable and only passed fit on the morning of Elaine's test. Our final competitor, Marianne Jubb was Highly Commended for her 8th place in dressage at her first National Championships, having just made the move up to Senior level.

Credit must also go to the Otley support team, whose hard work helped two of the riders to gain firsts in Tack & Turnout, and to mothers Barbara Herbert and Sue Jubb whose catering services were much appreciated. The team all looked smart in their new T-Shirts sponsored by The Blue Barn at Pool and embroidered free of charge by Hanney embroidery of Ilkley. All this local help made it a true Wharfedale triumph.

The Championships proved to a good example of RDA co-operation. Elaine was riding Ruby, kindly loaned to her by Middleton Park group, as Ruby was better suited to her needs than any of the three horses we took down. Our close RDA neighbours, Riverside group, allowed Roger to ride their horse Connie for the same reason. And our own Veteran Dales Pony of the Year Hillbro' Crispin, owned by instructor Elaine Goodall, was able to help a rider from Meiryonnedd RDA into 4th place when the rider's own horse developed a problem.

Well done, everyone!
